Push Jerk: 3, 3, 3, 3, 3
Double-under practice: as many reps in 10 minutes (don’t worry about the total…work for double-unders!)
So many things for us to be thankful for right now. First, a very sincere thank you to the CrossFit Hampton Road ATHLETES (led by troublemaker extraordinaire, Sandi) for the incredibly generous gift to the gym–a Sirius radio system and 2yr subscription. We were truly surprised. This is something everyone can enjoy, and you no longer have to listen to the same music over and over. This is just another example of what remarkable, stand-up people make up the CrossFit community.
Speaking of remarkable, this weekend, we hosted a Fundraiser WOD and CrossFit 101 to support the Naval Special Warfare Foundation. The team WOD was challenging but everyone proved their abilities and pushed the INTENSITY! Including a few long-distance checks mailed in, internet contributions, and what we put together on Saturday, the CrossFit Hampton Roads team raised just over $600 for the NSW Foundation!!!!!
By far the most meaningful part of Saturday was having the Valentine family attend. Christina Valentine is the wife of Senior Chief Petty Officer Thomas Valentine, USN SEAL (after whom the Hero WOD, Tommy V is named). Chief Valentine died Feb 13, 2008 in a training accident.
Christina’s attendance put a very sobering reality on the meaning of SACRIFICE and the purpose for which we gathered–TO HONOR OUR FALLEN HEROS. She is clearly a very strong woman, and her kids, John and Meghan, are remarkable athletes. They demo’d the rope climb (all 15′), situps, deadlift and running for everyone! John is almost a black belt in Muay Thai!
Thank you for those who attended and contributed. As we carry on with our day to day lives, the little things can seem so important and bothersome, and yet they are so trivial when compared to the bigger picture. Face each day as if it were your last: live, love, work, play, give and laugh as though there was no tomorrow.
