I’ve been known to go on rants about the food industry.  I have become a strong advocate of supporting local food suppliers (i.e. local farmers) by eating and shopping for locally grown, in-season fruits and veggies.  But in the spirit of this month’s recommended reading (Mistakes Were Made), I’ve got to take a step back and critically assess my stance and reasons for it.  Mark Sisson provides the perfect springboard for it in THIS ARTICLE about local food.  There’s great discussion in the article that covers both sides of the story and makes me take a step off the soapbox and assess where I’m comfortable living and the impacts of it.
Quote to ponder:

“I don’t go out of my way to purchase the farthest flung imported items, but I’m not going to wallow in guilt either when I feel like eating bell peppers in January.  Eating Primally is foremost a commitment to your personal health. It’s about optimizing your diet and other lifestyle choices to cultivate genuine wellness and disease prevention throughout your lifetime. Nonetheless, going Primal doesn’t have to discount other priorities in the social and environmental realm if they’re important to your personal values and lifestyle choices.”
