Welcome to November’s Coaches’ Challenge!
According to Harvard, mobility is defined as your body’s ability to move purposefully as you go through your day. The importance of mobility really shows up when you have to get off the floor, sit down on a bench, get out of the car, or put things away overhead. Loss of mobility as we age can impact our quality of life and lead to fall injuries.
At CrossFit Hampton Roads, we always include a mobility portion in our warm ups. For some of us, specific focus on our mobility is needed, just as specific practice to increase strength is needed. Both increased strength and mobility can lead to a longer, more fulfilling life.
This month we will be working on our mobility 4 times a week. But before we even begin, I ask you to take pictures of your squat and your overhead arm position to give us some sort of reference. At the end we will be able to compare our before and afters. If you want to show us your pictures, that will give us a chance to advise you on which stretches would best benefit you.
Attached to this blog post is a “Buffet of Mobility Exercises” to choose from. Some of these exercises you will have seen in class, some will be brand new to you, but come highly recommended from our friend Dr. Liz at Traction Wellness. I will try to include videos for all, but if you need help, don’t hesitate to ask any of the coaches.
To get credit for participation in this month’s challenge, just check the box in Push Press 4x a week! That’s a total of 16 times in November! Share on social media, grab a friend after class, and let’s improve that range of motion!
